Natural Sleep Remedies to Help Me Sleep

We are going to look at the topic and condition of lack of sleep or insomnia and some of the causes and treatments that are commonly used and alternatives that may be available for remedies. Prescriptions are used by many people and they can at times lead to side effects which cause people to look at more natural options for their lack of sleep. Some have used a natural product like Melatonin for sleep, which is a natural hormone found in all living creatures. This has been shown to have minimal side effects and has worked for many as a natural sleep remedy. As with any health condition, you need to work with your medical professional for advice, but if your lack of sleep is long term, you may want to look at something other than prescriptions.

Sleeping disorders or insomnia have been put is several categories and we will list four general categories here:

1. Falling and staying asleep

2. Staying awake

3. Regular sleep patterns

4. Sleep disruptive behaviors

Some people have a difficult time falling and staying asleep. some wake up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep, and still others wake up too early. All if these can be signs of insomnia and can affect your quality and quantity of sleep.

Sleeping disorders can be another form of lack of sleep and can be the result of several factors:

1. Depression and Anxiety

2. Life problems

3. Financial worries

4. Personal relationship issues

5. Sleep Apnea

6. Drinking caffeine too late in the day

7. Injury or pain being dealt with

8. Another can be a condition called restless leg syndrome

All of these issues can cause mental or emotional issues after time if not dealt with in some way.

There are several ways to deal with lack of sleep or insomnia and I will list three here:

1. Pharmacologically

a. Benzodiazipines

b. Non-Benzodiazipines

c. Anti-histamines

d. Anti-depressants

e. Atypical anti-psychotics

2. Natural / Herbs

a. Melatonin

b. Valerian

c. Magnesium

d. St. John's wart

e. Chamomile tea

3. Therapies

a. Cognative behavioral therapy

b. Relaxation techniques

c. Sleep restriction

All of these options can be considered to some degree for lack of sleep or insomnia, but with some people, medications can cause more problems than they solve. As stated before, it is very important to talk with your medical professional when you ask them to "help me sleep". By asking a lot of questions and sorting out what causes you may be dealing with, can be of great importance in coming up with the right solution for you. They may simply say take melatonin for sleep.
